Fake coronavirus-related news is spreading much faster than the virus itself nowadays. At a time when most of us are clamouring social media and the internet for more information, there are those out there who look to take advantage by posting wrong information about almost anything COVID-19 related.
Covidiots amirite?
Taking to Twitter, Malaysiakini issued a statement by the police denying slander spread through social media that the police are currently putting up roadblocks and issuing summons for those out and about to run errands.

In the image, it was mentioned that a friend of the individual was fined RM300 for going out with her husband during MCO to run errands.
Denying the slander, Brickfields District Chief of Police ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi stepped up to the plate and stated that the officer in charge of the roadblock denied issuing any summons for people going out to buy groceries.
“The police were there to advise members of the public to go home once they have completed their errands.”
In the follow-up, ACP Zairulnizam added that the case is currently investigated under Section 500 of the penal code and Section 211/233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
Look, we know that some of us may have time on our hands, as we are forced to work from home, but let’s try and give as much cooperation as we can to not spread fake news that besmirches those out there who are helping us make our lives much safer.
