Ever since the government announced that all university students will have to continue their lessons online till the end of 2020, many wondered when they would ever set foot on campus again.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) finally released a statement yesterday (31 January), specifying which categories of students are allowed back on university grounds starting 1 March. If you’re in one of these categories, do take note!

  • Students under certification programmes, Diplomas, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree who require practical, lab, clinical, studio and special equipment use.
  • Students who do not have access and suitable environments for conducive online learning.
  • Existing Asasi or Setara and Diploma students can resume hybrid learning.
  • All existing and new international students except those from the United Kingdom.
  • All OKU, special needs students.
  • Students that are sitting for their Malaysia University English Test (MUET), or international and professional equivalents.

The statement also said that hybrid online learning on campus can be implemented while abiding by the SOPs with priority given to the safety of students. Students who do not fall under any of these categories will continue online learning.

As for students from Semenanjung who have to travel to their IPT campuses in Sabah and Sarawak, they are required to undergo a swab test and the costs will be taken care of by the Ministry of Health.

Students who are returning to Sarawak will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine before they are allowed to return to their respective campuses. The costs of food and quarantine will be taken care of by the Sarawak state government.

Alternatively, students from Sabah and Sarawak who are returning to Semenanjung will be placed in isolation quarters determined by their respective IPTs to ensure that they are free from symptoms of Covid-19.

Students who require more information regarding their entrance to IPT campuses can contact the following numbers: 03-88706777/6949/6623/6628 or visit their website.

To everyone who’s going back to campus in March, do stay safe!
