Looks like there’s no need to worry about Bangkok street food, guys!

Last week, it was reported that Thai authorities will be clearing out popular street food stalls around Bangkok in an effort to reduce traffic congestion.

News of this alleged “street food ban” led many to believe that this was an end to Bangkok’s highly popular street food scene.

Well, it turns out that the ban isn’t so bad after all!

According to The Independent, many Thai people have pointed out that chief adviser to Bangkok’s governor, Wanlop Suwandee, was misquoted when he announced the “clean up” on street food vendors.

Instead of there being a “blanket ban” on all street food vendors, there will be more regulation with regards to when and where these stalls are set up.

A highly trusted travel blogger based in Thailand, Richard Barrow, tweeted about the news as well, saying that Suwandee denied that they will be targeting popular areas of the city to clear out.

Vendors in certain areas of Bangkok will be regulated, meaning these food stalls will be allowed to sell food during certain times of the day to help ease traffic congestion. It’s not the end of the world after all!

The Bangkok Post also clarified these regulations, stating,

“The government will improve the pavements and impose zoning and opening hours on street food vendors on Yaowarat and Khao San roads in Bangkok.”

Well, it’s safe to say that Bangkok’s fantastic street food is here to stay!

Phew! This makes us feel a lot better!
