Taking OOTD pictures is one of the important parts of the travel itinerary. A place in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah has unexpectedly become a tourist spot, particularly among Chinese tourists.

In case you’re not aware, many tourists from China recently shared pictures of them posing in front of a Maybank in Gaya Road, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The trend unexpectedly emerged when different tourists from China proudly shared their stylish and vibrant OOTD pictures at the location on their Xiao Hong Shu (RED) accounts.

The viral trend does not only appear on Xiao Hong Shu but if you look up “Maybank Sabah” or “Maybank Kota Kinabalu” on other social media platforms, you’ll be met with the same viral pictures of the tourists.

The Maybank at Gaya Street, however, has ceased operations. With the roller shutters down, does it make the pictures appear more vintage? Photography enthusiasts, you tell us!

“This is a tourism boost!”

Even the member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Kinabalu, Chan Foong Hin is well aware of the trend. Although he still cannot fathom the sudden trend, Chan expressed his thoughts of seeing the place turning into a popular tourist spot via his Facebook post.

“This reflects that Kota Kinabalu has rich tourism resources! Welcome to KK!”

Chan also took the opportunity to take some OOTD of himself outside the Maybank and mingled with the tourists who were also at the scene.

Sabah is commonly known for its food and other tourist spots like the beaches and islands, but who knew a closed bank would attract more tourists?

To our friends in Sabah, have you spotted the crowds at this particular Maybank? Do you think closed banks in Klang Valley can lead to the same fate by adding more tourist spots in the area?
