A married couple, who were victims of the landslide tragedy in Batang Kali and had lost their child to the incident, has taken the time to meet with their rescuers recently.

They were present in a brief meeting with Capt. (PA) Hilmi bin Husman, Junior Lieutenant (PA) Mohammad Amin bin Rosdi and Junior Staff (PA) Mohd Firdaus bin Abd. Samad, who are from the Hulu Selangor District Civil Defense Force and were among the first to arrive at the location of the tragedy.

According to a post by the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia Facebook page, the couple were there to express their gratitude over the help provided that day.

Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia wrote, “Although the both of them lost their child in the incident, these two still appreciated the services of all the rescuers who worked together to help save the victims.”

“In the meeting, the husband and wife expressed their sadness over the loss of their only child, and even shared a video recording of the birthday of their beloved child who had left them.”

The husband also explained that he was the first to call the emergency line and the sad moment when he saw his wife and child trapped in the car. He recalled how he was only able to watch from afar while rescuers tried to remove his wife and child from the situation.

“He also told how his wife was the one who ordered that their child be rescued first rather than herself, but the rescuers did not have the heart to tell her that her son had already taken his last breath at that time, only after the situation was completely stable did the rescuers explain the true situation, that her child has actually passed away,”

“This husband and wife expressed a million thanks to all the rescuers, even though they had just lost their child, they have remained steadfast in continuing their lives together, despite their child’s laughter still ringing in their ears,” they added.

It is truly saddening that the couple lost their child but we’re happy to see them persevering through the tragedy. Also, a huge thank you to all the rescuers who spent days tirelessly searching for every single victim.
