The Covid-19 outbreak took the world into a whirlwind situation and it seems we’re finally coming to terms with it, as the number of positive cases in Malaysia has slowly been decreasing.

Thankfully, it seems we may be getting a vaccine sooner than we thought.

As according to NextShark, a biopharmaceutical company in Beijing, China has announced promising results in two phases of clinical trials for a Covid-19 vaccine called CoronaVac.

Sinovac Biotech showcased “positive preliminary results” in phases one and two in trials with a total of 743 healthy volunteers aged 18 to 59.

In phase two which included 600 volunteers, CoronaVac revealed to be capable of neutralising antibodies and showed a positive response to the immune system. The candidate vaccine apparently had neutralised antibodies in above 90% of volunteers.

“Our phase one and two study shows CoronaVac is safe and can induce immune responses,” said Weidong Yin, the chairman, president and CEO of Siovac Biotech.

“Concluding our phase one and two clinical studies with these encouraging results is another significant milestone we have achieved in the fight against Covid-19. We have started to invest in building a manufacturing facility so that we can maximize the number of dosage available to protect people from Covid-19,” he added.

The company will submit a phase II clinical study report and a phase III clinical study protocol to China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) before running phase III clinical trials overseas.

Those trials will be conducted with the Instituto Butantan in Brazil.
