The customs officers managed to curb the operations of a major international cartel by seizing about 94.6 million amphetamine pills that were hidden in a shipment of trolley wheels. The pills were estimated to weigh about 16 tonnes (16,000KG) in total and worth RM5.2 billion.

The drug shipment arrived in Port Klang from a country in the Middle East and is believed to be heading to East Asia. The drug bust was a success due to the collaboration and intel-sharing between Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Home Affairs and the Royal Malaysia Police. This is certainly a very big step towards fighting international drug cartels.

As a comparison, the customs managed to seize 3.35 tonnes of drugs worth RM160 million in 2018. As for 2019 and 2020, they managed to seize 4.75 tonnes (worth RM790 million) and 2.86 tonnes (worth RM117 million) respectively.

This case will be investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and anyone found guilty will be sentenced to death.

This is certainly a good step towards battling drugs! Kudos to all of the authoritative parties involved.
