Looks like our police force needs more manpower!
Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Seri Asri Yusoff said that 500 out of 791 police stations in the country are facing a shortage of staff.
It is said that a police station needs to have at least 35 personnel in order for it to operate effectively and each of them must be led by an officer with at least the rank of Deputy Superintendent (DSP). Yet, police stations in East Malaysia only have five personnel in a station, or even less. That’s way too little for the benchmark set!

“However, what is happening now is 65 per cent of the total 791 police stations (over 500 stations) across the country face staff shortages,” said Asri, as reported by Malay Mail.
“Most of the police stations are also headed by officers with the rank of sub-inspectors to sergeants,” he added.

This may be one of the reasons that many policemen are deciding to retire early. Another reason for the cops opting to retire early is due to the fact that they have to work more than eight hours per shift.
He continues by saying that Bukit Aman is currently investigating the modern policing initiative enforced at Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Brickfields police stations to address the issue of staff shortage.
