With Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stepping down as the Inspector-General (IGP) of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on June 22, the successor has finally been named.

Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Mohd Khalid Ismail is set to take the mantle as Malaysia’s 15th IGP on a two-year term, effective Monday (June 23).

The handover ceremony and wearing of the number one position badge in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and the current IGP himself, Razarudin, at the Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim in PULAPOL (Malaysian Police Training Centre), KL, today (June 20).

The ceremony was broadcast live via the PDRM Facebook page.

Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, in the meantime, will remain as the Deputy IGP.

The handover ceremony began with the presentation of the letter of appointment and assumption of the rank of Inspector-General of Police to Mohd. Khalid, which was officiated by Saifuddin Nasution. The ceremony then continued with the signing ceremony and exchange of documents for the handover of duties between Razarudin and Mohd. Khalid, as well as the handover of the baton.

The appointment received the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, on the advice of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, upon the recommendation of the Police Force Commission. Khalid is expected to assume his role as the new IGP for 2 years.

Razarudin recently said he had decided not to renew his contract because he wanted to honour his mother’s wish.

Khalid was appointed as Special Branch director in April 2023 and has held other positions since he joined PDRM in April 1987, including as the security liaison officer in London, reported Malaysia Gazette.
