Malaysians are now allowed to be involved in jungle activities like hiking, camping, and trekking ever since 15 June as the country moves into Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). This announcement was well received by those yearning for some outdoor activities after spending months at home.

Previously, Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department director of Forest Eco-Parks and State Forest Parks Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop said, as reported by NST, these activities will only be for day trips with a maximum of 20 people at one time. Hence it is clear that there are SOPs that need to be followed by anyone who is interested in doing all these activities.

Netizens are sharing pictures of long queues of hikers waiting for their turn to register and to get their temperature taken before going up Broga Hill. The first picture which was shared by Yati Azri in the Hiking And Recreation Around Malaysia Facebook page shows a good number of people in line in the middle of the forest. She wrote,

“This is the line to register and get your temperatures checked. At the parking just now, there was another temperature check point. Although the queue is long, it wasn’t a long process at all. Don’t worry everyone. They are following the SOPs strictly.”

In the second photo shared by Nor Azan the following day, the queue looks longer but strict SOPs are still being implemented. However, it is apparent in both pictures that social distancing is not practised at all while the hikers were waiting for their turn. This is actually the responsibility of each individual there. We cannot only rely on the authorities to make us practice social distancing. We need to be the ones implementing it. For our sake and everyone around us. Okay?
