We recently saw how parents refused to leave their kids in schools by themselves, crowding the canteens and taking up spots meant for the students.
Well, what happens when you were to actually leave them to learn on their own? They become business savvy.
One mother, Puan Hasmi Samsuddin, took to her Facebook page to showcase how she had sent her son to Primary 1 with RM2 for pocket money, but he returned with RM4. Curious as to where the additional RM2 came from, she confronted her child, worried that he was stealing from other kids.
Ragam anak sekolah, baru 2 hari sekolah mcm2 hal abg eccer belajar..bagi belanja sekolah rm2, balik rm4 🤔..Abg eccer :…
She wrote, “New school student, just 2 days of school later my son is already learning all kinds of things, I gave him RM2 pocket money, he comes back with RM4.
My son: Mum, where is my piggy bank?
Me: Why do you want a piggy bank?
My son: I want to save money.
Me: Where did you get the money from?
My son: You gave it to me earlier.
Me: I gave you RM2, why is the RM4? Did you take your friend’s money?
My son: I didn’t take my friend’s money, I sold some grasshoppers.
I sent my son to school to study, not sell grasshoppers. For no reason he received a smack-down from me.”
It is understandable that Puan Hasmi would be upset but what if he had caught the grasshoppers during recess? After all, he didn’t spend his pocket money, which means he wasn’t eating during that time. And you have admit, that was a pretty smart move for a 7-year-old, and can eventually be developed into a widely functional business mindset.
Plus, most kids his age wouldn’t even think about saving money, but it’s better to start as young as possible.
Puan Hasmi’s posting has since garnered 3,800 retweets.
She should be proud of how advanced his mindset is compared to his peers.
