The cost of living in the city, such as Kuala Lumpur, is undeniably high, but what about other states, for instance, Kelantan Darul Naim? If you think you can survive there with less than RM2,000 a month, you might want to reconsider that.

A 24-year-old Kelantanese man debunked the theory that claimed everything is cheap in the state, adding that his monthly salary of RM1,700 is not enough.

Firdaus Hamzah, who works as a promoter in the state, admitted that he has to work overtime and another part-time job to get extra money.

“People keep saying that things are cheaper here in Kelantan. That was in the past.”

The man also said that he spent the most on food with his wife every month, with about RM50 used on food every day. To save up, the pair, who were recently blessed with a child, will prepare a beverage at home to bring to work. The pair also bring cooked rice from home and will buy dishes outside for lunch.

Firdaus’ wife also earns RM1,700 monthly as a salesperson, and on weekends, he will sacrifice his day off to set up tents at the Wakaf Bharu weekly market for RM50.

The married couple is currently staying at the man’s house with his family-in-law, and they go to work together in the same car. Firdaus also gives RM300 to his parents every month, and if he has extra, more would be given, reported Astro Awani.

“With our combined income of RM3,400, we still cannot live comfortably in Kelantan. We try our best to spend wisely, especially at times when the cost of living is increasing.”

To those in other states, how much do you spend monthly?
