A social media post by a Japan-based Indonesian content creator went viral recently, in which he shared a ‘culture shock’ he experienced while travelling in his home country.

In the video, Dian Kusuma, who migrated to Japan in 2011 and is the man behind the popular YouTube channel Neo Japan, shared his first-hand experience of how vastly different road users in Indonesia treat ambulances compared to road users in Japan.

A Japan-based content creator was shocked to see an ambulance getting stuck in traffic while government officials had a police escort in Indonesia

Sitting on the backseat of a car travelling to an airport in Indonesia, Dian showed how the local police instructed road users to give way during traffic congestion for government officials they were escorting.

A few seconds later, Dian showed how an ambulance with its siren lights turned in the opposite lane was stuck in the same traffic jam, without anyone giving way to it.

In the caption, the content creator said that what he witnessed gave him ‘culture shock’, as in Japan, all road users will stay to the side of the road and give way just at the sound of an ambulance siren.

“I’m experiencing culture shock, one week in Indonesia… This is the scene I witnessed when on my way to the airport. How can the ambulance be left stuck there?” Dian shared.
