Let’s be real, sex and sexual health are still pretty taboo topics for public discourse here, which is why this new local movie that was just released last week (8th March) is a pretty big deal!

Get Hard: Tongkat Ali‘ is director Chan Wei Cheong’s debut feature film, and it tackles a pretty prevalent issue that a number of men face – erectile dysfunction. He told Harian Metro at the grand premiere,

“Initially, I was afraid that a lot of sexual scenes from this movie would not be accepted by viewers, especially those from more conservative backgrounds.”

“However, we made the choice to go through with filming those scenes to make sure we got the point of the film across.”

He stressed the importance of portraying sexual scenes in promoting more awareness about erectile dysfunction in his movie, and it seemed to have paid off since the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia only cut out one sexual scene.

Chan Wei Cheong added that he made this movie (rated 18+) in hopes of adding more variety to the local film industry.

The movie itself is about 26-year-old Wen Hu (played by local actor J.C. Chee best known for his role as Kwok Keong in ‘Ola Bola‘) – a handsome young man with many admirers who seems to have it all. However, he suffers from erectile dysfunction and to make matters worse, he has to find a way to fix his problem in a mere 30 days.

Why 30 days? Well, that’s because his mother believes she has fallen sick due to a curse, and she believes the only way to break that curse is if Wen Hu proposes to and marries his girlfriend as soon as possible! LOLWAT.

We’ll just let the trailer speak for itself, lah!

Curious about this movie? Well, it’s already playing in 40 cinemas across the country (subtitles available in English, Malay, and Chinese), so be sure to check it out! This has definitely piqued our interest!
