Covid-19 is back in Kuala Lumpur after a new cluster was detected yesterday (27 September) in Setapak. A cluster has not been detected in KL for several weeks now, but this happened when an individual returned from Sabah.
According to the Ministry of Health, the index case of the Setapak Cluster (case 10,689) had visited Tawau and Semporna, Sabah from 17 to 20 September.
The woman began experiencing fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches and diarrhoea since 21 September and was later admitted to a medical centre on 25 September where she tested positive for Covid-19.
She was then transferred to Sungai Buloh for further treatment, but by then, the woman had transmitted the disease to two other individuals who were her housemates – case 10,770 and case 10,771. They were also admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Following reports of the new cluster, active case detection and close contact screening was carried out. As of 12pm on 27 September, a total of 20 individuals have been screened.
So far, three individuals tested positive for the virus, 16 tested negative while one individual is still awaiting results.
Measures to prevent and control the transmission of infections such as disinfection and cleaning processes are being carried out at all locations that have been identified for the Setapak Cluster.
New clusters in KL only means that the Covid-19 virus is still spreading around, and more so if we are not careful. Please be cautious when you’re in public especially in crowded places. There has already been several reports of individuals in shopping malls testing positive for Covid-19 and we do not want it to spread further.
