Oh how the plot thickens! The mysterious death of Nazrin Hassan – whose case has sparked vast public interest – now has added intrigue and suspense with the arrest of his two teenage stepsons on September 8.

Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd CEO Nazrin Hassan, was found dead in his room at his house on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and was said to have died of smoke inhalation when a fire started at his house on June 14.

However, early last month, police reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code following a forensic investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department. They had found traces of petrol in his room.

In the latest development of the case, puncture wounds were discovered on the neck of the deceased, and they are believed to have been inflicted with an arrow shot, therefore adding to the speculations that he had died before his body was burned.

The Star reports that the boys, who are said to be in secondary school, were picked up after it was found that they possess archery skills.

The two teenagers were clad in purple prison attire when they arrived at the Petaling Jaya court house at 11.30am, with a family member shielding their faces from the press.

Prior to the boys’ arrest, Nazrin’s wife Samirah Muzaffar and her ex-husband, both 43 were also arrested by police on Sept 4 and were remanded for seven days. According to Berita Harian, Samirah’s ex-husband has since been released.

Initially, the cause of death was attributed to his phone having exploded while charging, which then sparked off a fire. But now, to the shock of many, his closest family members have been identified as suspects in what has now become a gruesome murder.
