Stuck in our houses throughout the Movement Control Order, one thing we’re probably all familiar with are delivery apps. Whether it’s food, groceries or even incessant online shopping, there’s a chance the delivery riders know your house by now.

However, it’s been a real problem in the Philippines where irresponsible customers have been cancelling their orders after the rider made the payment or when the items are already on the way.

CNN reported that AKO Bicol Party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin said that violators will get the penalty of at least six years of jail time. They must also pay a ₱100,000 (RM8,489) fine and reimburse the food and delivery service providers for the value of the items advanced by the rider.

“This covers instances wherein customers order food and/or grocery items for the purpose of pranking or those who have no genuine intention of actually wanting the services.”

Garbin added that anyone who shamed and demeans delivery riders may also face at least six months of jail time.”It can be lowered if the proper committee finds it too harsh. It’s still subject to amendment anyway,” Garbin told CNN Philippines.

The only exception for the “no-cancellation” rule is when the customer pays using online banking and will not cause any loss to the riders.

Our delivery riders are working day and night to fend for themselves and have been working tirelessly during the lockdown. A cancellation prank is NOT the way you show your appreciation for them!
