DAP & UMNO Say They’re Willing To Work Together To Create A “Strong And Stable State Government”
After UMNO president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s comments regarding possibly working with other parties to form a coalition government yesterday, Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming has taken to his official Facebook page to confirm the news this morning.
“After analyzing and discussing the latest political situation in Perak state, I’ve decided that DAP is ready to cooperate with any political party, including UMNO, to organize a multi-racial, strong and stable state government in order to lead the people through this pandemic,” he writes.
He explains that because Pakatan Harapan and UMNO carry the most seats (with 24 seats and 25 seats out of 59 seats respectively), a coalition between the two will create a strong and stable government with more than two-thirds of seats in the Perak Legislative Assembly.
Cooperating with UMNO also means that the three big races, Malay, Chinese and Indian, will all be represented in the new government.
“Once UMNO accepts the conditions to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan, it proves that the DAP is not anti-Malays or anti-Islam. This will open up a new pattern and plant the seeds of hope for the goodwill between races. The reunification can no longer demonize the DAP in the countryside. This is a good thing for the party and the country.”
Negotiations between both political parties are still in the works, but this collaboration seems more in reach than we would’ve initially thought.
On the 6 of December, UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hinted at a possible collaboration with PH and DAP if collaboration with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and PAS to form a coalition government doesn’t follow through.
