Vincent Wu Him Ven, a politician from Johor, is expected to take up the mantle of Senator in Negeri Sembilan next month, and the DAP veterans in the state are not happy about the replacement.

The current senator from Negeri Sembilan, A Kesavadas Nair, will end his term this month and is not eligible for re-election after serving two terms. The DAP veterans believe that the person who replaces A Kesavadas should also be from Negeri Sembilan, and not an outsider.

In protest, the Negeri Sembilan DAP Veterans Club wore face masks made from sanitary pads to voice their dissatisfactions about Vincent’s appointment.

And there is a reason for the sanitary pads.

Club chairman Lee Kong Hin displayed the special face mask as a symbol of the state committee’s “silence” when faced with criticism.

“The sanitary pad symbolises thickness, impermeability, and privacy — just like how the committee members are afraid to speak up and always remain silent.”

“Reject outsiders! Who is he (Wu)?” Lee and others chanted.

“We don’t want the state committee to keep covering their mouths. We want our voices to be heard,” Lee further revealed.

Lee also disclosed that Wu received the title of “Datuk” from Negeri Sembilan two years ago, and demanded that the state DAP committee withdraw the appointment proposal and give priority to candidates from Negeri Sembilan.

Lee also questioned,

“Negeri Sembilan has 120 branches and tens of thousands of party members – is there no one qualified? Are we all dead? This is an insult to Negeri Sembilan DAP members.”

He also stressed that the state has no shortage of qualified candidates, such as lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and other professionals, reported Oriental Daily.

What do you think of this protest?
