34-year-old Toh Wen Hui, Johor DAP Youth Treasurer, was found dead in his car outside a hotel in Ayer Keroh, Malacca on Wednesday night (April 9).
The matter was shared by his fellow politician friend, Tan Hon Ping, on his Facebook post, who initially hoped the news of Toh’s passing was a mere joke, and said that he was shocked by the devastating news because Toh was a “happy pill.”
“I knew no one would crack such a joke early in the morning, but part of me wished it was a joke.”
“You were always so optimistic and filled with positive energy. You left too suddenly, and it’s unacceptable,” Tan expressed in his post.
DAP Youth in Johor also confirmed the matter via a Facebook post last night (April 10), who said Toh had contributed a lot to the organisation and dubbed his death “a major loss to DAP Youth”.
He had a RM700,000 debt
In a report by China Press, PDRM in Malacca has ruled out any criminal element in Toh’s death. The police received a report about the matter and had to call the fire department for help as Toh’s car door was locked from the inside.
Toh, who was also a real estate agent, however, showed no vital signs when the door was opened.
Melaka Tengah district Chief Police, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, added that initial investigations show that Toh called his mum at around 11 PM on April 8 and spoke about the massive debts that he was struggling with. Toh’s family members confirmed the mentioned debts and said only RM200,000 has been repaid out of his RM700,000 debts.
Toh also texted his mum and told her that he couldn’t pay the money he owed to his customer, and had suicidal thoughts.
At the time being, PDRM has classified the case as sudden death, and Toh’s corpse has been sent to the hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
DAP Johor Bahru, through a Facebook post, shared that a 4-day funeral service is being held at Nirvana Memorial Center in Skudai, Johor, to honour his memory. The memorial will be held until Sunday (April 13).
