It was recently revealed that an integrated operation was launched by the KL Strike Force Squad with the involvement of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the National Registration Department (JPN) to crack down on illegal photographers and unauthorised drink vendors around the KLCC and Saloma Link area.

According to a Facebook post by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the integrated operation saw 23 confiscation actions on the illegal photographers’ equipment and issued 23 compound notices under UUK 3(1) of the Hawker Licensing By-Laws (WPKL) 2016, all to ensure tourist hotspots remain orderly, safe and free from activities that disrupt public order.

Action was also taken against a drink vendor who did not have a valid license.

“The presence of PDRM and JPN in this operation also strengthened the aspects of security, identity verification and compliance with the law by all individuals at the location,”

“DBKL calls on the public to comply with regulations, not conduct business activities without a license and to respect public spaces to ensure that Kuala Lumpur remains peaceful, orderly and comfortable for all. Strict action will continue to be implemented from time to time without compromise,” they added.

How long should the authorities wait before action is implemented again?

Many netizens took to DBKL’s post to point out that the illegal photographers who tend to bother tourists around the KLCC area often reappear immediately after action is taken.

They have since called for the authorities to revise the actions they take to prevent the illegal photographers from returning again.

“If (their equipment) is just confiscated, in the next few days, when they get their salaries, they’ll purchase (the equipment) again. Seize (their equipment) and call immigration to check their status here. If they’re caught, just deport them.”

“The other day, the operation was done, but they’re back again. Because the laws are weak. Another thing is the foreign parking worms who are getting more daring, please monitor that too.”

“I just passed by the area and they’re there.”

What do you think the authorities should do to prevent illegal photographers from reappearing around the KLCC area? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
