Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has denied claims that there are plans to remove Chinese words from the street signs in Jalan Petaling.

DBKL clarified that the allegation is untrue and emphasised that the signs installed in the Jalan Petaling hawker centre area comply with existing guidelines and policies, as reported by Harian Metro.

DBKL has no plans to remove Chinese wording from signage

As of now, DBKL has no plans or proposals to modify or remove Chinese characters from the signage.

“DBKL would like to clarify that all decisions regarding signage are made in accordance with the Federal Territory Advertisement By-Laws 1982 while also considering heritage, culture, and the needs of the local community,” the statement read.

In addition, they also clarified that any changes to signage will go through a thorough review process.

DBKL promises to keep Kuala Lumpur inclusive and culturally diverse

DBKL is also urging the public not to be misled by baseless claims and to refer directly to DBKL for verified information.

“DBKL remains committed to ensuring that Kuala Lumpur continues to be an inclusive city that respects the diversity of cultures and heritage of all communities,” it said.
