Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Education Lim Hui Ying gave RM5,000 to a student from Sarawak who never misses a class.

Recently, it was reported by mStar that a student named Haziq has gone broke after missing a flight. Haziq, who is originally from Kuching, Sarawak is currently studying at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

After missing the flight to return to his university, Haziq had to use up his savings and PTPTN money to buy a new flight ticket at RM1,088. He insists on flying back to attend class even though he only had RM15.73 of pocket money left.

Haziq is not from a wealthy family, in mStar’s report, he said that he has to take care of his younger brother and sister who are still in school, and his disabled elder sister who suffers from brain cancer.

Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying reached out to him and gave him RM5,000 to cover the cost of the flight ticket that had been purchased and as pocket money.

“Saya tak pernah terlepas satu kelas…”Inilah semangat Haziq yang sangat saya kagumi dan menarik perhatian saya…

“Flight time at 10pm, reach UPSI at 3am. Then straight to class at 8am. Haziq never misses a class, despite the tiring journey to campus, he still comes to class. This is the fighting spirit that should be learnt by all students,” Lim said in a Facebook posting.

She also hoped that with that little contribution, she can help Haziq continue to focus on his studies and become a successful teacher in the future.
