It’s no secret that students in Sabah and Sarawak have to suffer the most in order to get an education. From having to endure dangerous routes to get to school to having no internet connection for the purpose of their studies, they have been calling for help for years but their calls have not been heeded.

And things have not changed despite an alleged RM1 billion allocation.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya took to his Facebook page to showcase the assembly hall of one of Sarawak’s poor schools, while sharing his disappointment for the lack of improvements.

He wrote, “SK Pergau is one of the poorest schools in Sarawak. I don’t know when KPM (Ministry of Education Malaysia) wants to build a new one. An amount of RM1 BILLION was given to Sarawak a while back.”

He went on to explain that efforts to call attention to this matter have been ignored by the authorities.

The roof of SK Pergau, in which he showcased, is clearly bent and tilted; and honestly, doesn’t look very safe.

“Many letters have been sent, much lobbying has been done. But the implementation never came. Rumours of approvals are just rumours that are getting harder to believe.”

“Look at how bad the assembly hall is for these students. We want our students to progress. But, we have not progressed to provide the most basic of facilities. This is my expression of regret that I have been feeling for too long,” he added.

We genuinely hope that the authorities will finally take action and fix the buildings and facilities for the students.
