A new study on the Delta variant found that the dominant variant could reproduce in the noses of individuals who had already been vaccinated, much like individuals who had not been vaccinated. Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said a preliminary study on a case of infection found that the Delta variant multiplied in the noses of people who had been vaccinated as if the individual had not been vaccinated. He posted on his page saying that,
“The virus that multiplies is equally contagious to people who have not been vaccinated. This means that individuals who have been vaccinated can still spread the virus and infect others.”
Previously several studies conducted in hospitals in India, Provincetown, Massachusetts and Finland also found that after the transmission of the Delta variant, there were many viruses detected in the nose of an individual whether they were vaccinated or not. Dr Noor Hisham was previously reported to have said Delta variants can spread in five to 15 seconds and infection through the air.

The period turned out to be short when compared to previous COVID-19 positive cases, i.e. exposed individuals could infect the virus in less than 15 minutes at a distance of one meter. However, Dr Noor Hisham stresses that even though there is a possibility of being able to infect others, vaccinated individuals are still protected against severe infection and fatality. Hence we would like to remind everyone to get vaccinated as soon as they get the chance.
