Okay lah, call us late to the game if most of you already know this, but we just found this out earlier today and we’re mindblown so naturally, like the good Samaritans we are, we thought we would share this newfound information with you guys! Plus, it’s actually a pretty good tip if you want to get fresh bread!
So, have you ever wondered why those little plastic tags on bags of bread always come in different colours? Well, that’s because it indicates which day of the week the bread was baked. Wah, that makes sense!

This means the tags are given colours to represent each day of the week. However, the colours do depend on the brand. Here’s the most common code most brands use, based on what we found online;
- Monday: Blue
- Tuesday: Green
- Thursday: Red
- Friday: White
- Saturday: Yellow
Gardenia, however, uses a slightly different set of colours to classify the freshness of their bread, as they bake bread 7 days a week. Here are the colours they use;
- Monday: Tan
- Tuesday: Orange
- Wednesday: Yellow
- Thursday: Blue
- Friday: Green
- Saturday: Red
- Sunday: White

So, using this information along with the expiry date, you can actually get the most out of your bread’s shelf life. We bet it saves a few Ringgit along the way too!
