Let’s see a show of hands – how many people here know why designated parking spots for disabled people are bigger than the normal parking spots?
They’re bigger to make it easier for disabled people to park as well as to give space for those in wheelchairs to embark and disembark from their vehicles easily. Unfortunately, this one person who drives a huge pickup truck clearly didn’t get that memo.
A man in a wheelchair who was visiting a mall in Subang Jaya couldn’t leave the mall because he couldn’t enter his car. Why, you ask?
Because the pickup truck driver had jammed his vehicle into the space between 2 cars parked in the designated disabled parking spot.

The man in the wheelchair, known as Ali, expressed his disappointment to myMetro, stating, “When I parked, the other car was already there in the spot next to mine. I was shocked to see that another car had slotted himself in between our spaces, making it impossible for me to enter my car due to my wheelchair.”
To add insult to injury, the pickup truck did not display any disabled person sticker, meaning the driver wasn’t entitled to park in the designated spot in the first place.
Ali added that disabled people in Malaysia wish to live an independent life, but due to bad eggs like this inconsiderate driver, they’re forced to ask for help from others.
“Us, disabled people, prefer to be independent and live normal lives just like everyone else. But when incidents like this happen, we are involuntarily put in a position where we have to ask for help.”
So, remember folks, even if you have an important errand to run, consideration is key. Look for a proper parking spot, just like everyone else.
