Just yesterday, dashcam footage showcasing the incident where Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s escort had punched a deaf e-hailing driver in Kuala Lumpur was released to the public.

This move was to pressure authorities to charge the escort for the assault because ever since the incident took place in May, the differently-abled victim had not received news of any action being taken by the police nor was the escort taken to court to be charged.

According to the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who spoke to BERNAMA, internal action has apparently already been taken against the escort by Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance (JIPS).

“An investigation was carried out last July and disciplinary action was imposed,” he said.

Investigation papers on this case have also been sent back to the Attorney-General’s Office (AGC) after the police received instructions for further investigations on July 22 (Monday).

Is disciplinary action enough?

The fact that this was announced AFTER the victim revealed the dashcam footage due to the lack of updates from the police left Malaysians outraged.

Netizens were also not too happy that the police did not clarify what disciplinary action the escort received, and pointed out that internal disciplinary action and being charged for assault under the law is NOT the same.

“The people want to know what the action and punishments are. Or at least showcase him being taken to court. His face isn’t even being revealed or what colour (prison uniform he’s wearing) when being brought to court. Is he really so untouchable? Don’t turn PDRM into an embarrassment.”

* Prison uniforms have different colours to indicate different ‘stages’ of the inmates’ incarceration.

“Even if this is true, PDRM has to inform or prove that the escort has received disciplinary action. They’ve kept quiet and only spoke up when called out.”

pdrm 3

“Just disciplinary action, is that fair? If it was a regular person, they’d end up in lock up for a week, would have to go up and down the courthouse and get punished in the end, with no immunity. Please clean up PDRM’s image.”

“Only disciplinary action? What about charges? What’s the punishment?”

Do you think that disciplinary action by the police should be considered as justice served after the escort punched a deaf man?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
