Dogs are smart creatures and it is one of the qualities that make them so lovable.
Recently, a doggo went missing in Northern Ireland. Even though missing pets are not uncommon, this story shows how smart dogs are.
Cooper, a golden retriever that was described as timid was rehomed by his old family. His new owner, Nigel wanted to get a companion for his dog Molly, so he went to the dog pound a few days earlier and chose Cooper.
However, on the way home from the dog pound in Dungannon on 1 April, Cooper bolted from the car. Even though Nigel gave chase, Cooper soon disappeared from his sight.
The distraught Nigel then asked for help from Lost Paws NI who set up cameras and feeding stations and went door-to-door to look for the lost canine.
Some of the people in the area say that they may have spotted him but after a few days, he seemed to have disappeared.
About 2 – 3 weeks later, they received a tip-off that Cooper was seen in Lisnanane Lane which was about 10 km from where he ran off. Once again, Lost Paws NI set up cameras and feeding stations and went door-to-door, they even put up leaflets and posters to no avail.
6 days later, a follower of Lost Paws NI contacted the organisation and told them that they spotted Cooper in the Tobermore area which is where Cooper used to stay. It’s also 64 km away from Dungannon where he first ran off.
Lost Paws NI then called Nigel and the follower sent them a picture of the now-found doggo looking very dishevelled.
Nigel and his dog are now reunited and the golden retriever is settling in nicely with his new canine sibling.
“We visited him several days ago and he was cuddled up by the fire comfortable and loved,” said Lost Paws NI.
As for why he was rehomed in the first place the organisation says that it does not matter as his current owner, Nigel is a patient, dedicated and loving owner.
