Yesterday (28 September), an ambulance was travelling to send an injured victim to Melaka Hospital, when an accident occurred. The vehicle collided with a cow while it was crossing the road in Lebuh Alor Gajah- Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) in Kandang, Melaka.
According to Harian Metro, the ambulance was on its way to the hospital from Sungai Rambai Health Clinic when the unfortunate incident took place. Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad, the Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, stated that the cow was crossing on the main road, while the ambulance drove on the left lane.
He further stated that the vehicle was carrying a 40-year-old patient and an Assistant Medical Officer (PPP). The accident caused the ambulance driver to sustain injuries on his left knee. Fortunately, both patient and the medical officer did not get injured, however, the cow died.
Furthermore, Rahmad Mariman, the state Exco for Health and Anti-Drugs reminded cattle breeders and owners that they shouldn’t neglect their animals as it could jeopardise the lives of the public. He continued that the authorities will impose a fine and confiscate their animals.
The Ministry Of Health (MOH) took to their Facebook page to shed a light on incidents such as this that could harm the lives of the citizens.
Wahai pemilik lembu sekalian, jagalah lembu anda. Jangan biar 'berpeleseran' tanpa arah tujuan yang boleh mengancam…
The post read: “Dear cow owners, please take care of your cows. Don’t let it roam around as it could threaten the lives of road users. Luckily, our staffs and patient are safe and only experienced minor injuries, but, our ambulance is completely damaged.”
Cow breeders should look after the cows as it could not only harm them but the general public as well.
