Cargo staff at the Miri Airport in Sarawak were shocked upon discovering a package that was suspected to contain a bomb yesterday (8th August).
Miri district police chief Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah told Harian Metro that the police received an emergency call at around 9.20pm yesterday evening from the airport’s police, alerting them of the package they had found.

A Bomb Unit was quickly deployed at the scene to inspect the package. The district police chief was quoted as saying,
“When we arrived, our officials showed us the package which had the words ‘Don’t throw this, there’s a bomb inside’ written on it.”
“The package was safely detonated, but further inspections revealed that there were just motorcycle spare parts inside it.”
Airport cargo staff reportedly found the package at around 7.30pm and was reportedly flown in from Kuala Lumpur on a cargo plane, which landed in Miri at 7.23pm.
The case is now being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“We advise the public not to write threatening messages, especially on packages and parcels that are delivered via planes. Airlines are also reminded to improve the standards of their safety check procedures on any package meant for cargo planes,” Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah added.
We’re glad that the authorities took the necessary precautions in this tense situation. Let’s hope whoever was responsible for this is also apprehended and investigated accordingly.
