A recent incident led to a vendor’s lease being immediately terminated after an altercation with a customer in Bangkok, Thailand.
The incident took place on 16 November at Chatuchak’s Red Building market, where the vendor told the customer, “If you’re not going to buy anything, don’t touch it.”
“If you have no money, don’t touch it”
According to the Bangkok Post, the customer said she was browsing with her family and picked up a metal box to show her child.
The vendor then approached her and said,
“You’d be smarter if you asked first. There’s a no-touching sign right there, can’t you see?”

The customer said she quickly apologised but pointed out that she had only noticed a “Thank you” sign, not a “Do not touch” notice.
After that, the vendor went to nearby shops to complain about the customer, claiming she had opened the metal box and not closed it. The vendor was also accused of telling her,
“If you have no money, don’t come here and touch things.”
The vendor claimed it was a joke
When confronted, the vendor claimed to have been joking and apologised. The customer disagreed, saying the comments couldn’t just be brushed off as harmless teasing.
Following the incident, the market released a statement saying that, following discussions with the vendor, both sides had agreed to end the lease immediately.
The management has apologised for the incident and thanked the public for their understanding.
