After 35 years of the best service in healthcare that Malaysians could ask for, our Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, will be retiring on April 21, 2023 (Friday).

This is because he will be turning 60-years-old on that day, the mandatory retirement age for civil servants in our country.

The Bahagian Keselamatan dan Kualiti Makanan, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia took to their official Facebook page to announce Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham retirement following their Malaysian food analyst council meeting, marking it as his last.

They wrote, “This meeting is also the last meeting chaired by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Hisham bin Abdullah, Director-General of Health as Chairman of the Malaysian Council of Food Analysts before his forced retirement on April 21, 2023,”

“A special session was held as an appreciation for all his services and contributions to the Malaysian Council of Food Analysts. He also left the following message, ‘In our work, we should be sincere, do our best and then rely on God‘. Happy retirement, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri, your service will be remembered!”

As most Malaysians would remember, Dr. Noor Hisham was the one we all relied on to lead our country out of the Covid-19 pandemic and at that time, he was also appointed chair of a new World Health Organization (WHO) standing committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (SCHEPPR).

He is also the President of Malaysia Medical Council (MMC), a member of the Board of Directors of the Drug for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) and a Senior Consultant Surgeon in Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery at the Putrajaya Hospital.

His service and contributions to not just the Malaysian people but also the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic at an international level will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much for everything, Dr Noor Hisham.
