If you’ve been planning on selling your car recently, make sure you’ve stopped your RFID subscription before giving it away or you just might end up paying for someone else’s toll fare!
It’s 2020, which means RFID is officially being introduced on highway toll booths for the convenience of all drivers. As of now, more than 830,000 car owners in Malaysia have installed RFID for their vehicles but that total is expected to increase as the government starts making moves towards abolishing TnG lanes, as reported by Beetify.
And while RFID does make it more convenient for drivers to pay toll, you wouldn’t want to pay for a toll fare that isn’t yours! Recently, news reports have circulated the importance of terminating your RFID before you sell your car or in the unfortunate case that your car gets stolen so you don’t end up paying for someone else’s toll fare.
If you have no idea, how to terminate your RFID service, we got you covered. You can firstly contact the Touch n’ Go careline via one of these four channels:
- Facebook or Twitter @MyTouchnGo
- SMS TNG <your query> SEND to 36266
- Email to [email protected]
- Hotline +603-27148888
The customer service line will then verify your identity, licence plate and phone number, following other information that you registered with. After the cancellation, be sure to open your Touch n’ Go eWallet to confirm that your RFID has been completely terminated.
According to Touch n’ Go’s official website, the new owner of the car should also re-register their RFID, adding that car sellers are obligated to terminate their existing RFIDs accordingly as TNG will not be responsible for compensating the money removed from your account if you forget.
So regardless of whether your car was stolen or whether you’re planning on selling it, do remember to terminate your RFID if the vehicle is no longer in use. Share this information with someone who needs to know!
