The pandemic was not kind to many people and businesses. Many were affected especially small businesses. And during these tough times anything ‘budget’ was what everyone looked forward to.

A few days ago, everyone’s favourite budget store, Eco-Shop made an announcement that received mixed responses from fellow Malaysians.

Items prices t0 increase starting from 1 December 2021 onwards

Worry not, the increase in price is only RM0.10!

From RM2.10 to RM2.20 in Semenanjung Malaysia, and RM2.30 to RM2.40 in Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak.

Eco-shop Malaysia explained that the increase in price is due to the cost of the goods also increasing, as an initiative to adhere to their principles where they continue to produce and sell items with the best quality for their customers.

They ended the post with, “We would like to apologise for this inconvenience, but we hope you will still continue to support us.”

Responses from Malaysians

Unhappy with the announcement made by Eco-shop Malaysia, a number of netizens expressed their disagreement on the price increase in the comments.

“Each year it will rise as much as RM0.10. Wow! Eventually the name would turn into ‘Kedai 3Eco’!”

Some left sarcastic comments, and some even to the extent of stating that they will be boycotting Eco-shop.

However, despite some of the backlash received from the announcement, some kind souls decided to express their gratitude and appreciation for being able to still afford despite the price increase.
