Vernacular schools will NOT be closed under the MADANI Government.

Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek confirmed the matter, saying the decision is based on existing legal provisions, particularly the Education Act 1996, which recognises the existence of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT).

Vernacular schools won’t be closed under the MADANI Government

Fadhlina made the statement in response to statements circulating online which claimed that vernacular schools in Malaysia will soon be closed.

“I assure you that this government will not close any vernacular schools. I’ve asserted this since I was elected the Minister of Education. If there is any unsure news, check with us first,” Fadhlina said during an event in Brickfields on Tuesday (9 December).

MOE is committed to expediting the completion of several SJKTs

Apart from that, Fadhlina added that the Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to expediting the completion of five SJKTs that require immediate redevelopment, including SJKT Sungai Bakap, Penang, and SJKT Ladang Jeram, Pahang.

She highlighted that old issues that have been pending for years need to be resolved so that students can receive the educational facilities they deserve.

The construction project for SJKT Sungai Bakap has reportedly been delayed since 2015, while students at SJKT Ladang Jeram are now forced to study in containers that have been converted into classrooms.

The launch ceremony for the handover of Smart Boards to 387 SJKTs nationwide, which she officiated at SJK (T) Vivekananda, Brickfields, also marked the ministry’s continued commitment to strengthening the vernacular education system, reported Astro Awani.
