Parents spend their lives working hard and sacrificing everything in order to provide the best for their children.
And yet, there are kids who would abandon their parents when they are too old to take care of themselves.
Philanthropist and social activist, Uncle Kentang, recently took to his Facebook page to showcase an elderly man who was left at an old folks home by his children, where he was essentially waiting for death. Uncle Kentang went on to advice the general public to be more caring towards their parents.
He wrote, “This uncle may have his last bowl of noodles, his last cup of tea and his last meal to slowly enjoy at a coffee shop. After being placed in a nursing home, he no longer has the chance to come out and enjoy the environment of a coffee shop. Every day he eats, sleeps and waits for death to take him on his next journey.”
Considering how much the elderly man wanted to visit a coffee shop, Uncle Kentang decided to take him to a kopitiam to treat him to a meal, and also assist the elderly man by feeding him the food.
“Life is very hard, and I promised the uncle that I would buy him something to eat. Uncle, take care of yourself. Although your children no longer want you, we are still here.”
“I hope this bowl of noodles is not your last, and this plate of siu mai is not your last. I don’t want to buy it for you when I’m offering incense to you. After a person dies, it will be meaningless what kind of food I can offer you,” he added.

He ended his post by urging people to take care of their elderly parents by taking them out for food
“Everyone, if you love your parents, please don’t wait for tomorrow and treat them to a meal that they like. Don’t wait until the time of offering incense (death) to buy what they like to eat. Food mixed with incense and candles are meaningless.”
“Loving your parents in not just talking about it, but actually doing it and doing it right away. Mums and Dads don’t need their children to take them to five-star hotels or Michelin Star restaurants, any stall or coffee shop by the roadside will be very fulfilling. Come on, bring your parents to enjoy the good food at a stall tomorrow, don’t wait any longer,” he shared.
