“Everything about her is good; there is nothing bad.”
Muharani Mat Junus, a resident of Kampung Sungai Penchala in the Segambut constituency, shared what it is like to mingle with the constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP), who was recently appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).
Muharani added that Yeoh is not only hardworking but also always keen to understand the issues and problems that the villagers are experiencing.
After her portfolio change from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Yeoh assured Malaysians that the rights and interests of traditional Malay villages in the Federal Territories, such as Kampung Baru and Kampung Sungai Baru, will remain protected during her tenure.
“If she weren’t good, Kampung Sungai Penchala wouldn’t be taken care of”
In an Instagram reel, Yeoh shared a short clip of the villagers in Kampung Sungai Penchala, who spoke about her good work. She also remarked that race or skin colour has never defined or limited her work, to which one villager concurred.
“Race has never been an issue with Yeoh. Those who say otherwise are just not aligned with her,” Zaini Haji Saidi said.
In response to the claims that the new Federal Territories Minister will abandon the Malay villages, those in Kampung Sungai Penchala defended the Segambut MP, saying with certainty that she is not such a person.
“No. She is not that kind of person. I’m not just defending her, but we’ve been with her for some time, I can assure you that she’s not like what others say,” Abu Johari said.
“Yeoh is not racist. She has no problem mingling with any race. I can’t wait to see her in her new role,” Zaini added.
In her post, Yeoh also thanked the villagers for their trust and motivation. The Segambut MP officially clocked in for duty as the Federal Territories Minister on Monday (22 December).
