A politician who was accused of being the mastermind behind the human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar has since broken her silence and responded to the claims.

“I don’t know how the accusation surfaced when I am not involved with any gangsters or human trafficking synndicate.”

In a video statement shared on her Facebook account, Former Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr. Mashitah Ibrahim explained the viral picture of her and her husband in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

“We were there as guests for a groundbreaking ceremony. We were invited by a friend, and his name is Datuk Seri Leong Kee Huat,” Dr. Mashitah explained.

Coincidentally, Datuk Seri (Leong) asked Dr. Mashitah’s husband to read the ceremony text which was written in English. Leong, on the other hand, cannot speak English. In the meantime, the picture above shows Dr. Mashitah, her husband, and Leong with other men holding weapons and dressed in what looks like military uniforms.

“That was a picture of me with the guards at the project site. Myanmar is a country ruled by the military, so to see guards carrying firearms is common there.”

“We’re the mastermind of the syndicate? Illogical and barbaric!”

Dr Mashitah continued to comment on the accusations that were thrown at her husband and her, calling it illogical and barbaric.

The former deputy minister also tells Malaysians NOT to jump to conclusions after looking at a viral picture without understanding the context and said no one has pinpointed her as the so-called mastermind of a human trafficking syndicate based in Myanmar.

“So far, no victim has come forward and said I was the mastermind of the syndicate. I don’t know anyone there. I don’t understand why this matter was spread and what was the real motive of the media from Indonesia to do so.”

Dr. Mashitah also urged the public not to jump to conclusions while PDRM investigates the matter.

Earlier, the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organization (MHO) submitted a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate a politician and her husband who were allegedly involved with a human trafficking syndicate group in Myanmar.
