Remember the news about elderly people being abused at a nursing home in Seremban?

PUSAT JAGAAN WARGA EMAS SEREMBAN. SEREMBAN – Sebuah pusat jagaan warga emas di sini didakwa mengabaikan penghuninya malah mereka juga dikatakan didera sejak kira-kira dua tahun lalu.Maklumat itu tular selepas status mengenainya dimuat naik oleh sebuah akaun Facebook, ‘Cik Pah Cik Ton’ yang mendakwa sebagai pembela warga emas sejak petang semalam.Pemilik akaun tersebut mendakwa, penghuni pusat jagaan warga emas berbayar itu antara lain dipukul, dikurung, dibiarkan kelaparan dan diikat di kerusi oleh penyelia wanita premis tersebut.Yang menyedihkan, dakwanya warga emas itu juga dipaksa minum air kencing, makan cili dan diberi ubat tidur secara berlebihan.Sebanyak 16 kematian dilaporkan di pusat itu sejak tahun 2017 dan angka itu dikatakan tinggi untuk sebuah pusat yang dibenarkan menjaga antara enam hingga 12 orang warga emas.Terdapat dakwaan berlaku kematian mencurigakan melibatkan empat warga emas yang meninggal dunia sepanjang empat minggu bulan Ogos 2017. On 19 June, four former employees of the said nursing home have released a statement saying that abuse does occur in the nursing home, and it’s been going on for the past three years!
According to The Star, the former employees verified that the recent video was actual abuse towards the elderly residents. They decided to speak up because they’re concerned about the senior citizens.

They have also confirmed that the allegations of staff forcing the elderly residents to drink urine and eat chillies, as well as overdosing them with sleeping pills, are all facts. And a female supervisor is solely responsible for all of these horrifying acts.
One of the ex-employees, Faizal, claimed that in addition to physical abuse, the elderly were deprived of food as punishment when they “caused problems”. He also told the reporters that the residents have complained to their children about being mistreated. But It’s unclear if their children took any action.
Now, the nursing home has been ordered to shut down temporarily while investigations continue, and its residents relocated to a safe place before their families take them home, according to Malay Mail.
It’s reported that the 12 residents were only allowed to go home after the police investigations were carried out. The owner of the home Azrin Shala, 49 hopes to clear the reputation of his business claims that his staff are innocent and that the elderly folks are ‘eager’ to return to the nursing home.

It was not until yesterday (21 June) that the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail made an announcement regarding this issue. She said that no elements of abuse were found against the residents as no evidence of abuse were discovered upon examinations at the hospital.
At the same time, the issue is currently being investigated for assault, as well as using criminal force on a person, according to The Star.
If what the former employees reported was true, we hope that justice will be served. The poor senior citizens do not deserve to be treated like a joke.
