It has been nearly 2 weeks since Chia Min Yong was last seen in Setapak before she was completely uncontactable. The news of her disappearance has been widely spread and efforts have been carried out in the search for her but to no avail.
Recently, Min Yong’s family revealed that they were contacted by a local man who claimed to be one of the kidnappers of Min Yong and often sends her food as she is currently being locked up. He told the family that Min Yong is currently at The Golden Triangle (the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong rivers).
“He asked for a ransom of RM30K or he will send Min Yong to other syndicate,” Min Yong’s sister in law said in a press conference on Friday (16 April).
The unidentified man also told the family that following the discussions with the syndicate that he is working with, the group decided to release her as the news has made headlines everywhere. However, Min Yong will not be released until the RM30,000 ransom is paid.
As the sister in law wanted to assure if the man really had Min Yong, she asked to speak to her before making any payments. But the man said if they wish to speak to Min Yong on the phone for 10 minutes, an additional amount of RM10,500 will have to be paid. He then told the family that they have an hour to consider it before hanging up.
“I decided not to pay him. A moment later, he sent me some images which he claimed to be Min Yong but I knew it wasn’t her at the first sight.”

As the “syndicate” failed to provide any proof that Min Yong is in their hands, the family decided to not pay a single cent to them as they believe the “syndicate” is nothing but a group of scammers.
As of today, Min Yong’s whereabouts remain unknown.
