Famous bone-setting specialist, Chris Leong was recently arrested in Indonesia along with his team after they were accused of abusing their visas. The arrest was made at a four-star hotel in Palembang in January 2018.

According to The Star and China Press, 20 people were arrested during the raid and 16 of them were volunteers from Chris Leong Method (CLM) agency based in Malaysia. The rest of the detainees were from Hong Kong, Ireland, and Belgium. It was understood that they’ve violated the laws by providing treatment to the locals without a work permit.

Although the group described their work as ‘charity’, the undercover agent sent by the Immigration Department to the hotel discovered otherwise. It was believed that the ‘patient’ had paid the team 4.5 million rupiah (approx. RM1,300) for the treatment, which landed them in hot soup.

Understandably, the arrest has made a few of his patients anxious as they’ve already made the payment to the agency for the treatment. Responding to the incident, Chris Leong posted an update on his Facebook page reassuring his patients that a refund will be done. Below is his statement.

“We know you are concerned. So sorry that the tour to Jakarta and Surabaya has been cancelled. We will process the refund back to you. Please give us some time and you will receive a text or an email from us soon. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

Preliminary investigation revealed that the volunteers had entered Indonesia on 5 January. The head of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Sudirman said all the arrested individuals will be deported back to their respective countries.

Hopefully, the team is able to settle all the legality issues and return to Malaysia safe. On a side note, it’s best to familiarise oneself with local laws before visiting and conducting business in other countries. Stay safe guys!
