Yesterday (10th April), news of the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) being held on Wednesday (9th May 2018), caused widespread worry among many working Malaysians.
Many of them were concerned as to how this would affect their work day, and if they had to apply for leave, especially for those who have to travel outstation to vote.

Now, it looks like the problem has been solved.
According to the Malay Mail Online, the federal government has just announced that polling day for GE14 will officially be a public holiday nationwide to enable Malaysians to go out to the polls and vote.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) reportedly stated that they would be invoking the Holidays Act 1951 to make polling day an ad hoc national holiday, saying,
“Pursuant to the Election Commission’s announcement that the 14th general election will be on May 9, 2018, the government has set the day to be an additional public holiday for the entire country.”
“This is to let Malaysians fulfill their duties as voters.”
