While most of us focus on earning enough money to purchase the cars that we want, there are those who have earned enough to not only already own the cars of their dreams but also to ensure they get the number plates that they want.

And some have paid close to a million Ringgit for those number plates.

According to a report by Astro Awani, Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared that the FF registration number series has broken the highest collection record in the country’s history since the introduction of online bidding. The series reached a total value of a whopping RM34.3 million.

The number plate, FF8, received the highest bid at RM950,000.

“FF8 is the highest registration number bid with a value of RM950,000, followed by FF9 (RM911,999); FF3 (RM639,000); FF2 (RM638,000) and FF7 (RM633,000). In addition, the 5 most popular registration numbers were FF199 which was bid on by 34 people, while FF51 received 32 bidders, followed by FF115, FF555 and FF1688 which were each bid on by 29 individuals.”

“The FF series is very popular because the identified trend is that people are very interested in registration numbers that have the same alphabet. I understand that many Ferrari vehicle owners are interested in this FF (series). Of course, the FF (series) is a very special serial number,” he said.

He added that the bidding process, which was supposed to have been closed on May 18 (Thursday), had to be extended for 24 hours due to the amount of people increasing their bids at the last minute, causing the Online Vehicle Registration Number Bidding System (JPJeBid) to be temporarily disrupted.

The bidding process also recorded the most participation involving 34,032 bidders, with 8,348 of them successfully winning their respective registration numbers. Each bidder is allowed to bid three times and the highest bidder will get the number.
