A total of RM12.8 billion has been recorded as Unclaimed Money (WTD – Wang Tidak Dituntut) belonging to the public as of last October.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan shared that the amount is the balance from a RM17 billion total value of WTD submitted by companies and firms.

“As of last October 31 (Thursday), the total amount of WTD submitted by companies and firms amounted to RM17 billion. The total amount of WTD refunds to the rightful owners was RM4.2 billion, making the balance WTD as of last October to be RM12.8 billion,” he said.

The public is encouraged to make claims

Additionally, he said that the Accountant General of Malaysia (AGM) Department has implemented 184 booths nationwide since 2022 to raise awareness and encourage the general public to make claims.

“Briefings were also held for companies and firms, statutory bodies, local authorities (PBTs) and other agencies to raise awareness regarding WTD. Throughout 2024, AGM has held 108 briefings,” he explained.

His party will also look into tracking down WTD owners and heirs using the latest data from the National Registration Department (JPN) so that the money can be automatically credited into their accounts.
