It looks like financial aid is on the way, Malaysian uni students!
According to Free Malaysia Today, the Ministry of Finance just announced yesterday (24th February) that financial aid worth RM100 will be issued for Malaysians currently pursuing tertiary education.
The money will be distributed to students using the Bank Rakyat debit card under the Higher Education Student Aid (BPPT) programme at the end of March.

This debit card system is reportedly a more efficient mechanism compared to the RM100 book vouchers issued by the previous Barisan Nasional government.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry stated that the details of BPPT 2019 and eligibility criteria of students on the receiving end of this scheme will be announced by the Ministry of Education at a later date.
RM120 million was reportedly allocated for this aid scheme and this is expected to benefit 1.2 million Malaysian students. In a statement addressing this scheme, the Finance Ministry was quoted by the Malay Mail as saying,
“The decision was in response to suggestions made by the Education Ministry to reduce financial burdens faced by college and university students.”

Just last week, the Finance Ministry also revealed that they would be reinstating RM100 cash aid for single, low-income earners under the Cost of Living Aid (BSH) scheme. They aim to distribute this cash aid to more than three million single Malaysians by the end of March 2019.
