According to China Press, a Singaporean car caught fire while it was travelling to Johor on the Johor-Singapore Causeway around 3:05pm on 27 July. However, the incident happened right in the middle of the bridge, causing a massive 1-hour jam on the road.
A witness said that it began when smoke wafted out of the engine of a black car, and suddenly, a fire broke out. The other drivers on the road started to worry when they saw the flames.
A male driver in his 20s was seen to have escaped from the car with panic written all over on his face. We’d sh*t our pants too tbh.
Worrying that the car would explode, 3-4 brave drivers got out of their vehicles and attempted to extinguish the fire. The staff from the immigration border came to put out the fire with fire extinguishers as well. But because the flame was too strong, the brave men couldn’t stop it.
Luckily, the firemen from both Singapore and Johor were called to the scene.
Ten firemen from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived first, and they’ve successfully put out the fire. Only after the fire was extinguished had the Johor bomba arrive at the scene.
No hate for abang bomba. Maybe they were further away?
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that the fire originated from the car engine. Luckily, there were no reports of anyone getting hurt.
Kudos to the firemen from both sides as well as the brave witnesses who helped to put the fire out. This incident reminds us that we should always check our cars before departing, especially when we’re traveling long distances.
