A foreign tourist claimed that the security check personnel at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) had cracked her smartwatch.

The tourist, Rainie, took to her Threads account to recall the incident, which happened when she was leaving Malaysia from KLIA at the end of her trip. Following a body search due to an anomaly by the metal detector, she discovered that her smartwatch had disappeared.

She wrote, “I went to Malaysia and enjoyed the delicious food. But, the last thing (that happened) has left me with the worst of memories. When I was going through the security check at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, I placed my electronic devices and bags in the tray.”

“When I passed through the metal detector, I had to be searched as (the metal detector) showed an abnormality. After the search, my bags came out of the machine but, I had everything except my watch.”

She used her phone to locate her watch

Frantic upon realising her watch was missing, she asked the security officer nearest to her if they had seen her watch. However, when she did not get a response, she decided to try a different method to locate her watch.

“They completely ignored my question. Then, I used (an application) on my phone, where I pressed the search button, and my watch made a sound. It turns out that the sound came from the basket under (the security) desk. The security officers started speaking in Malay, I didn’t understand it.”

“I saw them talking to one another, and one of them took out my watch. No hesitation, no searching. But, when they took it out, the watch was cracked.”

She ultimately finds the whole situation fishy, especially considering that the officers allegedly didn’t have to search for the watch to know where it was.

“If it was human error, I would have understood. But why didn’t they tell me after they saw the watch and picked it up? And they forced me to use the sound to find the watch before they took it out. It’s really a matter of attitude,” she added.
