An incident involving two foreign tourists in Bali, Indonesia, has gone viral in Indonesia recently after they were shown in CCTV footage arguing and getting physical with local salon workers over fees.
The CCTV recording of the incident was shared by the salon owners, Ombre Nails Studio and was then reposted by other social media pages, including the Instagram page Hallo.Denpasar.
At the start of the video, one of the women, identified as 37-year-old Chansler A. from New York, USA, can be seen talking to a salon worker before the pair appear to be in a tug-a-war battle over cash.
The salon worker can be heard telling Chansler that she has to pay before the latter falls backwards into a table after forcefully pulling the cash.
Afterwards, the other foreign tourist, identified as 37-year-old British national Andrea CW, stepped in and screamed at the staffer. She can be heard saying,
“Relax, I am trying to give you the money! Relax yourself, understand?”
Andrea can then be seen holding onto the staffer’s hands and screaming to her face that she is trying to be reasonable. She added,
“I asked you several times to let me outside. I ran outside to get money. You don’t know what I’m going outside for. Why were you trying to hold me hostage?”
Putting the nail in the coffin
In their post online, Ombre Nails Studio wrote that the two customers came and asked for treatment in their studio, and they were informed about the prices but ultimately refused to pay the amount.
The nail studio further elaborated,
“They blackmailed us that if we kept asking them to pay, they will leave a bad review and they started to verbally abuse our staff. All proof was recorded and is being handled by our lawyer and we submitted a report to police last night.”
The studio also alleged that the two women tried to take money from inside the cash register and caused some physical injury and mental shock to their staff. The studio claimed that some of the team were still trembling and crying today and hoped that the two would be caught so that they could apologise to the workers.
As reported by News.com.au, the two were indeed caught by the local police following the incident going viral.
They were arrested while they were trying to board a plane to Thailand via the I Ngurah Rai International Airport on 16 December.
The airport immigration officers were suspicious of them as they were wearing hats and masks in “an attempt to deceive”. Afterwards, immigration officials found that the two matched the women’s faces from the CCTV video and handed them to the police.
The duo planned to stay in Bali until December 22 but decided to leave Indonesia following the incident.
Well, their stay now may come even longer as they’re both facing charges under Section 1, Article 351 of the Indonesian Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to two years and 8 months in jail if convicted.
