The education of the younger generation should be at the upmost importance, which is why it is rather concerning to hear that our Minister of Education, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, is allegedly skipping meetings in regards to the future of the Malaysian education system.
Former Education Minister and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education (JKPKP) Dr Maszlee Malik shared his disappointment when no one from the Education Ministry (MoE) showed up for a meeting to explain the abolishment of the PT3 examinations.
Taking to his official Facebook page, he shared, “On 13 June 2022, the 6th meeting of the JKPKP was held. The main topic of the meeting was on the abolition of PT3 by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MoE) which was announced recently.”
“As this issue involves the interest of the people and is closely related to the future of national education, JKPKP through the Secretary of the Dewan Rakyat called on the Education Minister or his representatives to provide enlightenment and explanations on the rationale, preparation and alternatives to the action,” he wrote.
“Unfortunately, MoE and its Minister chose to NOT ATTEND.”
The PT3 examinations are meant to help stream students into either science or art courses as they enter Form 4 and with the Ministry not attending the meeting, the committee was left frustrated for leaving their questions on alternatives for PT3 unanswered.
“This is very unfortunate, because it underestimates the power of parliament and belittles the concept of separation of powers that exist in this country,” he stated.
“This unprofessional attitude also raises a thousand questions as to what makes them afraid to face parliament through JKPKP? What do you want to hide.”
“JKPKP is very upset with MoE’s attitude and will issue a media statement on this matter in the near future. JKPKP will also meet with Tan Sri Speaker of the House of Representatives and also YAB Prime Minister in regards to this,” he added.
